An all-hybrid taxi fleet has begun service in the Washington suburb of Arlington, Virginia, operating the environmentally friendly cabs. A sign of things to come? Perhaps. It was opened on Wednesday by Prince Sultan bin Salman. Saudi Arabia is one of the most conservative countries in the world, where tradition and hardline clerics restrict women's movement, preventing them from meeting male friends in public, driving cars or taking up employment in many jobs.

French police said Friday they have arrested a taxi driver in connection with the murder of a Swedish student whose charred body was found in a French forest at the weekend.
