Franklin Delano Roosevelt sets a precedent by winning a third term as US President, carrying 40 states. His opponent, Republican Wendell Willkie, gains more votes than any other losing candidate in the nation's history. Election Day coverage shows many prominent people casting their votes, and concludes with the victory celebration for Roosevelt.
