Thousands of people protested on Sunday in the Georgian capital Tbilisi against what they said was a rigged presidential election apparently handing victory to incumbent Mikheil Saakashvili. Gathering in the snow on the central Rike Square up to 10,000 opposition activists accused the authorities of stealing Saturday's polls. All the opposition candidates have promised to use all legal and political means to contest the elections in the courts. But Georgia's snap presidential election was "competitive" and "valid" in a triumph for democracy, the head of the OSCE observer mission told journalists Sunday.
