Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden warned Europe in an audiotape released on Wednesday of a "reckoning" for publishing controversial cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed. In the message, addressed to the "intelligent ones" in the European Union, bin Laden said publishing the "insulting drawings" was a greater crime than targeting Muslim villages and killing women and children. Addressing the Israeli Parliament, US President George W. Bush vowed on Thursday to support Israel in battling "terror" groups as the nation marks its 60th anniversary still struggling to find peace with Arab neighbours.

Heavyweights of the French fashion industry signed a charter on Tuesday pledging to fight anorexia by promoting healthy body images in magazine ads and on the catwalks. The charter, which is voluntary and not binding, took more than a year of talks to create and did not set any restrictions on fashion models' body weight, as did a similar initiative in Spain.
