Ewan & Charley: A Road Less Travelled - Part 3
In the final part of our exclusive 3-part series, Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman find out what's being done to support children affected by HIV AIDS in Malawi. Ewan and Charley describe their visit to the child care centre in rural Chimteka as a really positive experience, despite the fact most of the children there are orphans and have lost parents to HIV/AIDS. More than half a million children in Malawi have lost one or both parents because of AIDS, and 15 per cent of the population is now living with HIV. Centres like this new one at Chimteka are run by the community and supported by UNICEF. They provide young children with nourishing meals, basic health care and education. Ewan and Charley always wanted to get an insight into Africa and its people on this journey and as they reflect on their trip through Ethiopia, Uganda and Malawi they already understand the difficult issues that need to be tackled.

Ewan & Charley: A Road Less Travelled - Part 2
In the second episode of this exclusive 3-part series Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman travel to northern Uganda to meet young people whose lives have been brutalised by being forced to fight in a rebel army. Northern Uganda has been in the grip of a war between the Ugandan government and a rebel group called the the Lord's Resistance Army for 20 years. Caught in the middle are civilians and their children often only 7 or 8 years old who are abducted by the LRA and terrorised into becoming child soldiers. Ewan and Charley hear first hand accounts from Richard and Sarah, two of the many children who have brutal stories to tell of abduction, fighting, rape and eventually release or escape. Child soldiers often spend eight years away from their families and when they return face the stigma of having fought for the rebels. On their return they are often still regarded by their families as a rebel soldier. UNICEF helps rehabilitate them back into their community and helps them overcome mental and physical trauma. The process can take two years. Ewan and Charley also deliver 'school-in-a-box' kits to Richard's school, and learn about a Catch Up Health programme.
