In the Moremi Game Reserve in Botswana, a variety of birds chase fish in a pond that has been cut off by receding floodwaters. The various bird species each hunt using a different technique. Species include: yellow-billed stork (Mycteria ibis), great white pelican (Pelecanus onocrotalus) and marabou stork (Leptoptilos crumeniferus).

Sandy cliff is home to bee-eaters
Red Cliffs, 30km north of the Nxamaseri River in Botswana's Okavango Delta is peppered with holes that belong to carmine bee-eaters (Merops nubicoides). The birds have distinctive pink plumage and they tunnel into the red sandy cliffs to make nesting holes where they breed during their southerly migration.

The clear waters of Botswana's Nxamaseri Channel enable the film crew to get close to three large crocodiles (Crocodylus niloticus) in their underwater habitat.

Eel inhabits dark cave
A large eel lives out its long life in the dark recesses of a cave in South Africa's Blyde Canyon. This creature was spawned in an estuary and moved upstream to a suitable freshwater pool where it may live to be 100 years of age. At some point it will return to its ocean home to mate before dying.

Welcome rains have fallen on the Drakensberg plateau, bringing life to a variety of flora species. Adjacent to the cliffs below, a Cape griffon vulture (Gyps coprotheres) and bearded vultures (Gypaetus barbatus) ride thermals as the mist rolls in and obscures the scenic view.

On approach to the Antarctic peninsula the crew takes in the magnificence of massive blue- and green-tinged icebergs, pack ice, ice floes, an albatross, a petrel and two small groups of adelie penguins (Pygoscelis adeliae).
