NY Underwater Episode 3: Trapeze
Today's hottest performances can't be found in upscale concert halls or downtown galleries, but behind swiveling library bookcases and down secret sets of spiral stairs. Enter the world of New York's underground performance art. Turn left for knife-juggling unicyclists and pianotop contortionists. Turn right for sequined samba dancers and burlesque beauties. Look above for lithe trapeze artists and graceful firespinners, and head down the stairs to see bikepunk kids dive their bikes, parkour-style, into giant dumpster pools. This is a world of spectacle, of risk-takers, the decadent, and the freaks. It is colorful. It is dark. It is unique. This is New York Underwater. In Episode 3, we tumble and turn in the lithe world of trapeze art at the Creme of the Big Top.

Radar Four - Universal Record Database
What do 'Most money destroyed for profit', the 'Longest shhh' and 'Most flaxseed cracker people created in one minute' have in common? They are all records held on Dan Rollman and Corey Henderson’s Universal Record Database, otherwise known as the 'definitive site for human achievement'. The founders take us through the thinking behind their project, while Zoomdoggle's Jake Bronstein waxes lyrical on the joy of inventing new categories, Emmy award winning writer/director Todd Lamb explains his obsession with fish sandwiches and photographer Emily Wilson breaks a new record live.

Radar Ten - Newmindspace
Kevin Bracken is a modern day Peter Pan. From his Bushwick warehouse -the appropriately named Refuge- he works with teams of volunteers to create and stage free, fun, participatory events across America that enable strangers to interact publicly in a natural carefree way, uninhibited by monetary transactions. These events also allow the participants to reclaim public spaces; a must Kevin insists for responsible citizens, in order to challenge permit driven culture. The creator of International pillow fight day -a simultaneous experience ideated to prove the global strength of the 'urban playground movement'- all events are born from childhood games: multiplied, and staged in concrete plazas. We follow Kevin and his team as they prepare and launch Lightsaber Battle NYC, to much surprise and glee in Washington Square park.

Beautiful Losers - Ep 1
An introduction to the artists, including a memorable decapitation anecdote from filmmaker Harmony Korine. BEAUTIFUL LOSERS celebrates the spirit behind one of the most influential cultural moments of a generation. In the early 1990s a loose-knit group of like-minded outsiders found common ground at a little NYC storefront gallery. Rooted in the DIY (do-it-yourself) subcultures of skateboarding, surf, punk, hip hop & graffiti, they made art that reflected the lifestyles they led. Developing their craft with almost no influence from the ""establishment"" art world, this group and the subcultures they sprang from have now become a movement that has been transforming pop culture. Find out more at babelgum.com/beautifullosers.

Radar Thirteen - Undetermined Measurements
Ten people dressed in stark white "clean suits" and masks disperse amongst picnickers, inspecting the ground in sunny Central Park. Heads turn, unsure, and people start asking questions. Undetermined Measurements is an ongoing performance and documentation project. During each phase of the interventionist series volunteers gather, dress in protective clothes and silently engage with the audience in a non-confrontational manner. Why are they there? The question is left open ended, expressing the ever-changing perception that the United States has transformed from a unique symbol of freedom to a more fragile and fearful representation of uncertainty. We follow Sean Hovendick and his team as he takes Undetermined Measurements to NYC for the first time.

Human Sculpture Trail
Follow an incredible sculpture trail through the busy streets of central London. Live body sculptures are set up quickly and exist fleetingly before the acrobatic performers disengage themselves and move on. The route is revealed as the work progresses, leaving it to the audience to follow the performers and discover the next installation. The colourful body sculptures offer a new and imaginative perspective on well-known spaces and architecture, as well as displaying astounding physical prowess.

Bodies in Urban Spaces is a Willi Dorner event for Dance Umbrella 2009. For more Art in the City videos, visit the superpage.

Push Button House
Push Button House investigates the creation of Adam Kalkin's follow-up to his 2007 Venice Biennale sensation, a shipping container that blossoms into a sleek modern pre-fabricated home. First-person observation and Kalkin's own words shed light on an artist/architect who defies anything traditional.
Part performance piece and part sculpture, the Push Button is an engineering and artistic feat that captured the attention of both the artistic community and public as a bold, yet playful vision on the intersection of art and technology.
This award winning short film has been featured at over a dozen international festivals including AFI Dallas, Newport Beach Film Festival, Seattle International Film Festival, and featured preview footage at the Museum of Modern Art.
