Hype Machine and Babelgum CMJ Showcase - Midnight...
Midnight Juggernauts Following on the heels of their massive debut album, “Dystopia”, and a tour with Justice, Midnight Juggernauts returned to the studio to craft their panoramic follow-up (with help from Christopher Moore, who produced the latest albums by TV On The Radio and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs).  We were stoked to find out that the Juggernauts would be making the long haul from their native Melbourne, Australia to the Big Apple to preview this new material at CMJ.  They crammed their huge, synth-laden beats into the hot and sweaty confines of the downstairs stage at Santo’s Party House to headline our Hype Machine/ Babelgum showcase—and in the spirit of CMJ madness, they rocked it.  Here they are premiering the epic lead single, “This New Technology”. babelgum.com/cmj

Hype Machine and Babelgum CMJ Showcase - Theophilus...
Thoephilus London Already blowing up in the UK, Brooklyn-based rapper and hip-hop artist Theophilus London started out gigging at poetry slams around NYC before dropping “This Charming Mixtape"" as a free download online.  The superb mixtape showcased a love of electronic music and a sharp ear for beats.  Big things are in store (check out his collaboration with Mark Ronson and Sam Sparro on the November episode of Hype Machine Radio!) but right now it’s his energetic live sets and catchy tunes that are making him the talk of the town. We filmed this performance of “Humdrum Town” at the Hype Machine/ Babelgum CMJ showcase so you can see what we’re talking about! babelgum.com/cmj

Green Owl and Babelgum CMJ Showcase - Theophilus...
GREEN OWL SHOWCASE: THEOPHILUS LONDON Theophilus London is from Brooklyn, but his new-wave rap poems have quickly become the hottest shit in both New York and the UK.   A wordsmith that's James-Dean cool, young London is the voice of a post hiphop generation.  His rhymes cut through traditional rap braggadocio to explore new horizons and emotional landscapes.  Below him, the beats are idiosyncratic and filled with synthesizers and talking drums.   London's debut mixtape, This Charming Mixtape, came out 2009 to rave reviews.  Expect a full-length in 2010. babelgum.com/cmj

Hype Machine and Babelgum CMJ Showcase - Sleigh Bells
Sleigh Bells One the most talked-about acts to come out of the 2009 CMJ Music Marathon, Sleigh Bells are a brand-spanking-new duo from Brooklyn, comprising Alexis on the mic and Derek on guitar/beats, who have just burst onto the scene with their unique brand of spare, thrashy hardcore pop tunes.  Their performance at the Hype Machine/ Babelgum showcase was only their sixth live gig ever!  A week later, their self-released new single scooped a 9 (!) from Pitchfork, while their live sets garnered an endless stream of praise from the music blogosphere. Check out this exclusive recording of “AB Machine”. babelgum.com/cmj

Babelgum's CMJ Special Series - Fool's Gold
Fools Gold Headliners Fools Gold are described by Pitchfork as ""a gloriously busy bit of life-affirming Afro-pop”. There are a lot of comparisons to Talking Heads / Stop Making Sense era but all that aside, they are so just much fun live, this was the best ending to a great party and our first CMJ showcase. We went out with a bang! This is “ Poseidon“ performed live at the IAMSOUND CMJ showcase 09. babelgum.com/cmj
