James Kalm Frames NY: Joe Bradley & Chris Martin...
James Kalm parks his bike and slogs through a late-winter blizzard to partake in the opening of this double show featuring two of contemporary paintings most exciting practitioners. Joe Bradley employs the trappings of high formalism, Minimalism and an austere vision leavened with a unique whimsy and humor, while we are presented with a chance to view some of the massive paintings that brought Chris Martin's work to the public's attention in the late '80s. The contrasting of these two sensibilities provides us a chance to witness the wide spectrum of today's painting practice.

Whitney Biennial 2008
This time around we chose to cover the Whitney Biennial with help from the museum's exhibition designer, Mark Steigelman. Last week's video on Olaf Breuning included a glimpse of his Biennial installation at the Park Avenue Armory (an off-site component that's new this year) and this episode is a select survey of the works by the 50-odd artists showing at the Whitney. Mark explains the challenges of laying out such a monumental exhibit, shows us a few of his prized sight-lines and points out architectural features unique to the Marcel Breuer-designed building.

Toilet Gallery
As art scenes go, the leafy suburb of Kingston-upon-Thames in Surrey is pretty unremarkable. Paul Stafford is an artist who studied at the Slade School of Art. His day job involves guiding students through their foundation year in art and design at Kingston University. Until now that is, because Paul is determined to change all that.

The Lever House
For nearly a decade the Lever House in New York City has been home to some of the most daring public exhibits of contemporary art. In this video curator Richard Marshall gives some background on the architectural landmark and explains the ins-and-outs of putting together the biannual commissions that have included the likes of Barnaby Furnace, Sarah Morris and Damien Hirst. In addition to past shows, we also get a close look at Richard Dupont's installation of larger-than-life distorted figures, the making of which we documented in our video profiling the artist.

The Art of Henry Moore
"Winner of the Prix du meilleur film éducatif at the 25th International Festival of Films on Art in Montreal 2007. Henry Moore is arguably the greatest sculptor of the twentieth century. Born in Yorkshire in 1898, he died after an exceptionally productive career in 1986. His large-scale sculptures are centrally sited in many major cities across Europe and North America. Indeed it can sometimes seem as if his work has become so familiar that we fail to notice its beauties and its boldness. The Art of Henry Moore aims to rediscover the artist by returning to the works themselves - his sculptures, drawings and graphics - and to Moore's own thoughts about them. Archive photographs from the collection at the Henry Moore Foundation complement the artworks, newly filmed across Britain, in France and the USA. Many of the artist's most significant sculptures are featured, from the earliest models of the 1920s to the monuments of his final years. Drawings from each stage of his career, including the famous tube shelter sketches made during the Blitz, are also included. The specially recorded soundtrack is drawn solely from Moore's words in interviews, articles and letters."
