Radar Thirty-Six: Start Trekkin
Start Trekkin is a New York based long form improv group centered around the original Star Trek television series. Start Trekkin examines humanity through the medium of the popular 60’s television show, using it as a pop-reference point for the human experience. Using scattered suggestions from the audience, the Troupe will perform a 60 minute live show, manipulating the staples of the galactic series, such as melodrama and comedy, all the way through stage combat and downright sillyness. True to form, they address the human condition, using a surprising yet familiar vessel, with original characters and off-the-cuff situations, telling a story we can all identify with.

Radar Two - I Eat Pandas
During the day, Eliza Skinner works on Wall Street and Glennis McMurray teaches and appears in commercials, but at night they bound on stage as the critically acclaimed I Eat Pandas. In regular performances across the US, including the Upright Citizens Brigade theater in LA and NYC, they create shows that consist of three completely different, completely improvised musicals in just 25, 15 and 5 minutes, all based on a single suggestion from the audience. Currently starring in promos for Showtime and writing an eight part musical via their video blogs, we talk to them about balancing day jobs with rising comedy careers, and what it takes to create as a duo on the fly.

Moscow Cat Theater (Marilyn Agrelo)
You’ll be hard-pressed to find a more unusual circus, or father-daughter performing duo. The Moscow Cat Theatre is just that: a travelling show of cats that perform amazing tricks for the owners who love and train them. Everybody in Russia may be used to seeing cats perform tricks, as the theatre’s manager explains in this funny, charming film, but felines walking tightropes, crossing the stage on giant balls and walking upside down is not a common sight in most countries. As a balalaika and accordion circus score plays in the background, Creative Director Vladimir and his daughter Maria combine their love of cats and stage to create a captivating act and illustrate the tricks of the trade – giving new meaning to the expression ‘herding cats’.

Radar Five - SLAM Theater
While evenings of spontaneous, timed creativity are becoming more and more popular in NYC, only one brings together actors, writers and directors for evenings of in-house collaboration in a completely inclusive environment. At SLAM theater anyone can walk through the door to perform, or with a script, or simply to be entertained. Actors are chosen randomly and directors have three, then fifteen minutes to showcase their work, completely unrehearsed. Audiences feedback, a panel of judges score, and writers voted onto the next round are able to unveil more of their play. The atmosphere is riotous and anything goes, especially fun.

Radar Twenty: Poetry Brothel
Believing that Poets undervalue themselves in the creative marketplace, The Madame, and right-hand man Tennessee Pink, set up the Poetry Brothel in order to confirm in writers the literal monetary value of their work, and also to present Poetry in its more natural form - intimate and sensual over the more standard formal and jilted reading. The collective is made up of 'Poetry Whores' who ply their trade at specially arranged events, dressed in turn of the century dress, in character. The creation of character, as both disguise and freeing device enables the Poetry Brothel to be a place of uninhibited creative expression, where both whore and John can be themselves in private.
