Love, Death, and Revenge – The Bizarre Musical World of The Puppini Sisters

There are plenty of tales of jilted lovers out there. Stories of the broken heart’s revenge, both bittersweet and cruel, are timeless indications that love can be as terrible as it is wonderful. The Puppini Sisters take the pangs of love and splay them out in clever songs backed by some amazing short films. Their music evokes a simpler time, or perhaps a world filled with more whimsy and absurd delight. Think sugar and spice and boogie woogie, mashed with ruby red lips and diamond eyes. Think twirling skirts and gloved hands, but with a modern wink and a nod.

Puppini Sisters

These three ladies are taking advantage of their own charm and subtle wit with the tales they tell in their absurd little films. And it couldn’t be classier. In Apart of Me, the tale told in the lyrics and visuals is that of a sinister man who blatantly poisons his lady, the reasons for which we may never know.

Our heroine’s life might be over, but her revenge has just begun. Continue reading ‘Love, Death, and Revenge – The Bizarre Musical World of The Puppini Sisters’

Babelgum Comedy Wains on Your Pawade

Puns! Now that that’s out of the way, we’d like to introduce you to this fantastic series starring David Wain, appropriately titled Wainy Days.

The cast is star-studded, the plot is perfectly silly, and the puns are puntiful. Did we mention spontaneous dancing in the street?

If that’s not quite your cup of tea, you’re either a horrible person or someone might prefer another hilarious series called Horrible People.

STILL not satisfied? How about Sarah Silverman in something not quite as crazy as the Sarah Silverman Program, but just as adorable and interesting? It’s called Pilot Season, and if you don’t like it, we have plenty more options over at Babelgum Comedy.

Celebrities and Babelgum Comedy Go Together Like Peanut Butter and Babelgum Comedy

We love celebrities. We also love peanut butter, but that’s not really the point here. We love celebrities and generally famous people simply for being famous. We get to inspect, dissect, and mock their lives because we see their entire lives. We don’t even have to feel bad about it because they have way more money, fame, and success than we ever will.

That’s why we want to highlight Things I Learned This Week, a great series over on Babelgum Comedy that features Carrie Prejean, Carmelo Anthony, Dolly Parton, Lindsay Lohan, Anna Kendrick, and Sarah Palin in just one episode.

So come on over to Babelgum Comedy, where you can have a good laugh at someone else’s expense. You know, like celebrities do.

Working for the Weekend at Babelgum Comedy

Today marks the passing of over half of this work week. What say we cut out a bit early and have a drink in the office? Or better yet, redesign the whole office for drinking? Maybe have an extremely casual Friday? Perhaps even start your novel on company time?

To clarify, we don’t suggest you attempt getting fired, or working naked, or even drinking at work. We do suggest you head on over to Babelgum Comedy for more great, smart comedy.

Today’s Joke of the Day Will Reappear in Our Dreams Tonight

We’re shaking things up over here at Babelgum Comedy. Livin’ on the edge, eating dessert before dinner, not obeying our mothers. The point is we’ve got some great happenings, one of which is the inaugural Joke of the Day courtesy of Comedy.com.

We should probably mention it’s a gorgeous woman with great cleavage telling the jokes in a British accent. Yeah, we figured that would make you go back and click.

We’ve got plenty more smart comedy over at Babelgum Comedy. Feel free to drop in any time!

Goth Girl, Comic Geek, and a SciFi Fan Boy Talk about Their New Favorite Movies

Talyn – Goth Girl, 16 – In Defense of Twilight

goth girlFirst of all, let me just say that I think most movies are stupid and boring and don’t mean anything, but I watched Twilight and saw it as something more than just a mainstream personification of dark culture made up by capitalist deathmongers and Hollywood phonies. Ugh. No, in fact Twilight (the film) grasped everything that Stephanie Meyers wrote in the books. Edward was even more beautiful than I could even imagine. My stupid mother thinks he’s “creepy looking” but who cares? Anyway, if you haven’t seen Twilight, you really should because it shows just what kind of dark love lies within us all.  And if you understood that, then you wouldn’t stare at me in the mall, and maybe you would realize you want to sparkle just as much as I do. Goddess be.

Hate Your Job? Here’s Five Ways It Could Be Worse

Mondays are bad at any office job, but here at Babelgum Comedy we have the unique perspective of handling quality comedy videos all day. That being said, this Monday we had a few laughs and learned that things could be a lot worse. Don’t believe us? Here’s five ways:

1. Promotions could be even more arbitrary
Momma always said if you work hard you can achieve all your dreams. She didn’t work in an office like Dilbert.

2. Work hours could be much longer
This guy really needs a vacation. Or maybe just a snack break.

3. The undo button could break
We all make mistakes, but what if we depended on a real-world undo button as much as we do on our computer’s undo?

4. There could be cake
Office drama is always obnoxious. Add women overly concerned with their weight, and cake is just a match to that powderkeg.

5. Your assistant could be scheduling your breakdowns
Sorry, did you have plans for 3am? Looks like this self-fulfilling prophecy is going to hit you like a ton of ennui.

One way it could be better? You could be enjoying all the hilarious, smart comedy Babelgum Comedy has to offer.

(Not) Anderson Cooper’s Top 5 Your Geek News Episodes

TV's favorite silver fox

TV's favorite silver fox

Hi, it’s me, Anderson Cooper – everyone’s favorite silver fox TV personality. I have an admission to make, ladies and gentlemen: beneath this smooth exterior, I am a hardcore geek. Yes, I’m a total nerd when it comes to watching flicks full of magic, mythical creatures, and the robot-overrun dystopian future.

But it’s hard for me, as a newsman, to get all the info I need on the best geek friendly movies. Thankfully there’s Your Geek News to keep me “in the know.” I’ve picked some of my favorite moments from this show, hosted by the incomparable duo, Matt and Nat. Please enjoy.

  1. T4 Review: Terminator Salvageable? Satisfactory? Sub-Par? – I didn’t see T4 – frankly, I didn’t have to, as Matt and Nat showed me a glimpse into McG’s latest opus. It’s no secret that I’m a hardcore T2 fan, and I have the DVD to remind me of a simpler time, when movies were movies and morphing and liquid metal effects were the apogee of CG. Anywho, Matt and Nat not only examine T4 as a stand-alone film but as part of the series as well. Makes me glad I stopped at #2.
