5 Things We Learned About Relationships Today From Watching Stand Up Comedy Videos

Mondays at Babelgum Comedy are a time when we consider a lot of things: How hungover over we still are from the weekend’s festivities, how people survive going back to jobs that don’t involve watching hilarious videos all day, and whether or not we should continue to pretend we’re happy in our current relationship.

It’s that last tradition that inspired us today to check out some great stand up comedy clips about relationships. Luckily, our pals at Rooftop Comedy have supplied us with the advice of some of the best comedians on the planet. Here’s five things we learned about relationships from them:

1. How To Talk Dirty
When it comes to talking dirty, it’s usually not a great idea to discuss how much money you saved on dinner with a coupon.

2. Marriage Isn’t All It’s Cracked Up To Be
Ricky Reyes reveals what being married is actually like (hint: not awesome).

3. Girls Are Like Sexual Loan Sharks
Pete Lee warns that just because a woman is willing to have sex with you, it doesn’t mean it’s a good investment.

4. Text Messaging Can C*ck Block You
Last Comic Standing’s Chris Porter teaches us about how text messaging can be hazardous to your hook up potential.

5. The Secret To A Good Relationship Is To Do What You’re Told
Nathan Timmel explains how he finally learned how to make a relationship work when he turned 40.

Suddenly, our own relationship doesn’t seem so bad.

Have You Checked Out Babelgum Comedy Lately?

The OnionNew YorkerDilbert

Hey there, Babelgum fans! We, the editors of Babelgum’s fantastically hilarious Comedy channel, just wanted to take a moment to introduce ourselves to you and let you know that you’re going to be seeing a lot more of us on this blog starting today. If you haven’t checked out our great collection of smart comedy videos yet, then either you’re very confused or you hate laughter. Either way, we recommend you head on over and check out what we’ve got for you.

If you’re wondering where you should start, here’s a taste of some of the great stuff on the channel:

Mexico Builds A Border Wall To Keep Out American Assholes
The latest and greatest video from The Onion is a spot-on take on why drunk Americans love to cross the border and why Mexicans probably wish they’d keep their partying ways in California where they belong.

This Is Why Gravity Sucks
Did you ever read a funny cartoon in The New Yorker and wish you could see it “come alive” as a 16 second animated video? Yeah, so did we.

Real Men Don’t Need Porn
You know what’s great about standup? If the joke is funny enough, sometimes you don’t even need to stand up to make us laugh with it.

Dilbert’s Late Again
When it comes to office antics, nobody does it better than Dilbert. Well, at least nobody does it with more of a dry sense of humor than Dilbert.

When you’re done watching these clips (and probably the 100 other clips you’ll wind up watching on our Comedy channel), leave a comment telling us which ones were your favorites. Tell us what you want more of and we’ll give it to you…unless it involves a donkey. In that case, you’re on your own.

Peter Doherty’s new video premiering on Babelgum

He’s the UK’s best-loved “indie laureate”, a charismatic, enigmatic singer songwriter with a unique poetic voice: Peter Doherty recently released his solo album Grace/Wastelands, to widespread critical acclaim.

Broken Love Song is the second single from the album, and Peter chose to première it exclusively here on Babelgum. To accompany it, we also have a never before seen interview with the man himself, two live acoustic performances of Arcady and Lady Don’t Fall Backwards, and some highlights from Peter’s career to date.
