2010 came and went in the blink of an eye and now it’s time to look back and remember some of this year’s funniest Babelgum Comedy videos. So let’s go ahead and take a look at some of our faves from this past year:
Babelgum Comedy is bringing the ruckus! Featuring the up-and-comers of UCB COMEDY with their latest mini-masterpiece, Gary Shandling performing as part of Variety’s Power of Comedy event, and a personal favorite from the sketch show Simon Pegg was a part of prior to STAR TREK and even SHAUN OF THE DEAD — a show called BIG TRAIN.

Delicious beetroot cocktails (no, really), mini borschts and enough vodka to keep a Ukranian village merry throughout the 12 days of Christmas, the Zorokovich 1917 launch party sure was a lot of fun. Check out our photos here.

PJ Harvey by Seamus Murphy
PJ Harvey returns…
Legendary British singer-songwriter PJ Harvey offers up a taster, for her forthcoming album ‘Let England Shake’ (due for release on 14th February 2011), entitled ‘Written On The Forehead’.
The evocative new track is a sweltering, sultry number that conjures up visions of a warm and dusty land, filled with belly dancers and tangerine trees. Check it out: Written On The Forehead by pjharvey
CocknBullKid’s remix bonanza
CocknBullKid, a.k.a London’s eccentric pop shape-shifter Anita Blay offers up a nice bundle of tunes for you to download for FREE. Featuring: CocknBullKid’s Marina And The Diamonds remix, a cover of Kele from Bloc Party’s ‘Everything You Wanted’, plus remixes of her track ‘One Eye Closed’ by both Aspirins For My Children and Tomb Crew.
Her debut album, ‘Adulthood’, features the production skills of Sneaker Pimps’ Liam Howe plus collaborations from Gonzales, Peter Morén (from Peter, Björn & John) and Metronomy’s Joseph Mount. It is due for release in February 2011… CocknBullKid – Exclusive We Are Hunted Mp3 bundle by Stayloose
The Streets – the end is nigh
So – The Streets last ever, ever album ‘Computers And Blues’ has been scheduled for release early in 2011, but Mike Skinner has also recently unveiled plans to release a new album before that called ‘Cyberspace And Reds’. In a recent interview with Radio 1, Skinner said that ‘Computers And Blues’ would be “dark and futuristic,” whilst ‘Cyberspace And Reds’ would be “painfully repetitive.” It’s an oddly un-enticing sales pitch but you can draw your own conclusions by checking out two sample tracks, ‘Going Through Hell,’ and ‘Too Numb,’ now, at Stereogum.
Ellie Goulding gets remixed – again…
Goulding’s groundbreaking chart-topper ‘Lights’ gets the remix treatment from Potomac Boys Club – who masterfully chuck in a little Waka Flocka Flame and Wale to the Goulding mix, for good measure. It’s pretty great stuff. Listen now, at pigeonsandplanes.com
The Killers – shaking their jingle-makers
Finally – because it’s that season again and because The Killers are sticklers for tradition, they have penned another Christmas song for charity. For the fifth consecutive year, The Killers are releasing a holiday tune in aid of the (RED) foundation, who work with iconic brands including Apple, Nike and Starbucks in raising money for HIV and Aids programs in Africa.
This latest Killers Christmas track, entitled ‘Boots’, comes complete with a video directed by Jared Hess (Napoleon Dynamite and Nacho Libre). Starbucks are promising to donate 5¢ to (RED) every time the video gets viewed. This means that whilst you don’t actually have to like The Killers – you do still have to watch their video. Lots.
From the blizzardy wastes of Douboviazovka to a cocktail lounge in London’s Mayfair, this little vodka’s come a long way. Filmmaker Dan Edelystn will be holding court at Aura Mayfair from 4pm, sharing the sensational story of how the chance discovery of his grandmother’s diaries led him on an epic journey through his family history, from pre-revolutionary Russia to civil-war era Belfast, and to his great-grandfather Ilya’s vodka distillery, still operating in 21st-century Ukraine.
The challenge he then set himself was to:
- Revive the family vodka brand and, like a perky young David, take on the Goliaths of the alcohol industry
- Restore the fortunes of his ancestral village
- Make a drama-documentary detailing his family history, starring himself and his wife, to be screened on UK television channel More4 in 2011.
Zorokovich 1917 is now on sale in Selfridges, London’s swankiest department store.
You can find out more about the launch party on the event’s Facebook page. Dan and his production team will be filming scenes for the documentary film at the launch party, so be sure to slip on your glad rags and wear your jauntiest ushanka hat.
On this week’s Best of Babelgum Comedy, we decided to look deeper into the words of Kanye. We can deconstruct the lyrical content of Yeezy’s latest musical achievement at another time though, as Kanye’s twitter feed has become a primary source of pure and infinite joy on the intersphere. You may misunderstand his egomaniacal genius or his flair for ingratiating himself in divisive PR stunts — the man convinced Bush the “all-time low” of his presidency was being called a racist. Say what you will about the man the legend, but Kanye’s words are pure unadulterated entertainment through and through.
The geniuses behind our beloved KIDS REENACT series paired up with Kanye’s twitter feed, to bring you not one, but seven short vids that will warm their way into your hearts just as they have to millions already. You can find the featured videos from the mini spin-off series KIDS REENACT: KANYE’S TWEETS right HERE and the rest of them below:

Also this week, as we featured The Ugg Boots Vaccine video, Tom Brady announced that he will be the new face of Uggs (yes. it’s true!). It seems this is needed now more than ever:
