Here we go!

It has taken a few more days than expected but we are finally there! Today we are launching our open beta phase, with a brand new release of the Babelgum client, involving a major rewrite to improve performance and several new features. The release will also showcase hundreds of hours of content, with much more to come in the next few weeks.

This is a true beta, so expect a few glitches here and there that we will do our best to fix promptly as we collect your feedback and improve the service.

Here is how the open beta launch all works. If you have already been invited as a beta tester you can download right now the new release by signing in on our new website. All pending requests will be approved in the next few days, starting today. We’ve received lots of requests, time has come to thank those applicants for their interest and patience.

Beta testers will also have unlimited invites, therefore if you want to try Babelgum right away the best thing would be to look out for a friend who already has it or check for select blogs that will soon have loads of invites to give away. You can also try our daily first-come, first-serve download lottery on our Web site. All these steps are aimed at keeping our growth pace under control for a short while until we have road tested our new infrastructure and we feel confident to fully open the download “floodgates”

In the meantime, if you enjoy being a Babelgum Beta tester you can say that out loud showing one of the badges we prepared for your blog/site.

Thanks,
The Babelgum Team

    Hello,

this is great news. I have one little question: In the Babelgum viewer you have two content buttons: a “TV” button and a “video” button.

Does that mean that in the future you will offer rebroadcasting of live TV channels (like Zattoo)?

I like the simple Bablegum UI and easy to use channel guide ….the competition could learn some lessons in that regard but I suppose the Bablegum people have been doing IPTV longer than the Joost team has :)

Joost also doesn’t have a Linux release .

And I’m sure Bablegum will have a OSX version soon
