The London rock band, Scoundrels, was signed by Seymour Stein to the newly revived Blue Horizon label. He sent them on a musical journey, first to the Louisiana bayou, and then to Chicago to record their first album, which drops in June. This 6-part documentary chronicles how the band went on a search for the history of the blues and rediscovered their own sound with producer Steve Albini.

So – The Streets last ever, ever album ‘Computers And Blues’ has been scheduled for release early in 2011, but Mike Skinner has also recently unveiled plans to release a new album before that called ‘Cyberspace And Reds’. In a recent interview with Radio 1, Skinner said that ‘Computers And Blues’ would be “dark and futuristic,” whilst ‘Cyberspace And Reds’ would be “painfully repetitive.” It’s an oddly un-enticing sales pitch but you can draw your own conclusions by checking out two sample tracks, ‘Going Through Hell,’ and ‘Too Numb,’ now, at Stereogum.

Ellie Goulding gets remixed – again…
Goulding’s groundbreaking chart-topper ‘Lights’ gets the remix treatment from Potomac Boys Club – who masterfully chuck in a little Waka Flocka Flame and Wale to the Goulding mix, for good measure. It’s pretty great stuff. Listen now, at pigeonsandplanes.com

The Killers – shaking their jingle-makers
Finally – because it’s that season again and because The Killers are sticklers for tradition, they have penned another Christmas song for charity. For the fifth consecutive year, The Killers are releasing a holiday tune in aid of the (RED) foundation, who work with iconic brands including Apple, Nike and Starbucks in raising money for HIV and Aids programs in Africa.
This latest Killers Christmas track, entitled ‘Boots’, comes complete with a video directed by Jared Hess (Napoleon Dynamite and Nacho Libre). Starbucks are promising to donate 5¢ to (RED) every time the video gets viewed. This means that whilst you don’t actually have to like The Killers – you do still have to watch their video. Lots.

Cloud Nothings – ‘Understand It All’
We’re head over heels for Cloud Nothings – the brainchild of Cleveland teenager Dylan Baldi who single-handedly penned, performed and produced an album’s worth of feel-good, lo-fi indie gems in his basement. After the tracks hit the blogosphere, Cloud Nothings-mania rocketed and led to the recruitment of TJ Duke on bass, Jayson Gerycz on drums, and Joe Boyer on guitar. The band’s live debut in NYC was with Woods and Real Estate – no less.

Best Coast pen Christmas tune – listen!
We know there’s still a whole month left until Santa rolls into town but Babelgum Music feel we’re probably all in need of some Christmassy cheer to awaken our frost-deadened senses. The best Christmas album you’ll probably hear this season has to be Target’s compilation of tunes penned and performed by acts including Crystal Antlers, Little Jackie, Blackalicious, Best Coast (see pic above) with Wavves. So c’mon – shake those jingle makers! Or something to that effect. Listen Now…
Finally – Liam Howlett of big-beat legends The Prodigy has done a stellar remix of Jay Z’s classic tune ’99 Problems’. Download it here and enjoy!

Karen O – ‘If You’re Gonna Be Dumb, You Gotta Be Tough’
Yeah Yeah Yeahs frontwoman Karen O adopts a Southern drawl for the title track from the forthcoming Jackass 3D movie. How a bunch of nay-be-good thirty-somethings, tirelessly doing frightening things with their testicles and butting their heads into walls, managed to entice the effortlessly cool Karen O into a studio, is beyond us. But we’re glad they did. Karen O manages to turn the title track, penned by Roger Alan Wade – the cousin of Jackass impressario Johnny Knoxville – into something fraught with do-or-die sentiment and naked emotion. Awesome.

The single is taken from the Grammy winners’ eclectic seventh album “Raditude”, out early November, which “sounds like a roomful of people having a great time”, according to lead singer/guitarist/songwriter Rivers Cuomo.
