Georgia, Cognac and Women (Yury Khashchavatski)
The special love of Georgians for wine is not accidental. If you talk to just about any good winemaker, you will come away with the feeling that he or she has a vast wealth of winemaking knowledge to draw from, and that the winemaker consistently fine-tunes his or her approach to meet the requirements of a given wine. It is much like man fine tuning his approach to meet beautiful women. If you ask any Georgian about which is the best wine in the world, their immediate answer will be ‘Georgian’. They may also specify whose wine exactly – his, his uncle’s, brother’s, neighbor’s, etc. The Georgian wine is often compared to the company of beautiful women. Some winemakers out there who don't operate this way; they get by with a rigid, 'recipe' approach to winemaking. But this philosophy is not the best in the long run.

Saving the Fading (Dominic Hilton)
On the gable-ends of buildings throughout the villages and towns of France are characteristic publicité paintings. Not billboards but hand-painted murals that add a distinct flavor to the French landscape, some for as long as 100 years. A recent law preventing the advertising of alcohol, and the growth of auto-routes taking drivers' eyes elsewhere, has lead to this tradition being abandoned. Always a popular subject for artists and photographers, these murals have become more complex and interesting as they decay, exposing the pentimenti of previous versions and colors and becoming accidental works of art. Michael Clarke is an Irish photographer who captures and documents these murals in the hope that they will be protected from paint-overs, fly-posting and graffiti.

Belarus: On the Farm (Yury Khashchavatski)
The Soviet Union collapsed a long time ago and the promise to build the infrastructure to deliver electricity to every house has been broken in the former Soviet Republic of Belarus. In Belarus, there are still villages where people live without electricity. The government has promised to deliver basic needs in the past, but the citizens are not very hopeful under the current presidential regime. Galina Ripinskaya still uses lamps and irons that date back to 80 years ago. She also uses the local pond as her refrigerator. She puts the products in the basket and lowers it into the water. The top is covered in grass. Her meat can be stored for 3-4 days and sausage for one. The water is always cold in Belarus. The family has asked for help from the President of Belarus, but recently they replied that rural electricity is not planned at this time. Ripinskaya Galina lives proudly and contently but would someday like to watch this documentary about her on the internet at her house on a computer.

Wait for Me (Ross Kauffman)
“Wait for me. Wait for me and I will return.” Thus begins an extraordinary film that began a few years ago when a friend of filmmaker Ross Kaufmann casually mentioned in conversation the disappearance of a brother several decades years earlier. Kaufmann became intrigued with the 'Into Thin Air'-style story of John, a young man who set off on a bicycle trip through Europe and eventually to India to find himself - and was never heard from again. Alternating between John’s loving mother describing her son and his journey, her voiceover as she reads aloud from his letters to her during his trip, and home movies of John, first as a child with an adorable smile and later as a young man, Kaufmann depicts a life’s search for meaning. With heartbreaking sensitivity, he allows John’s mother to tell the story that only a mother could tell, and to explain how, 22 years later, she has followed her son’s written plea to continue to wait for him.

The Kinda Sutra Abridged (Jessica Yu)
Oscar-winning director Jessica Yu poses the questions: "Where exactly do babies come from? And how are they really made?" to a variety of adults and youngsters who explore their earliest understanding of sex, conception and how the two, uh, intersect.

Paradise Regained (Steve James)
He was the painter who brought paradise to the infamous Chicago housing projects, miles of urban housing rife with violence, gangs and crime until they were finally torn down. With Reed's wall-filling murals, residents transformed their living rooms into oases from the ghetto storms outside. Through description and animation, Reed depicts a world that is thankfully gone yet brought alive again by ex-residents who will seek his views of paradise.
