Freewheelers: Tom's Vektar
If you thought ‘Kit’ on Knight Rider was pretty cool, then chances are you fantasized about having one of these. Tom’s '80s Raleigh Vektar BMX, complete with computerized sound console, was nothing short of cult. Then he got it tagged by ROA, one of the biggest names in the street art scene. Need we say more?

Freewheelers: Saki's Moulton
The Moulton is a British design icon; a small-wheeled, folding bike recognisable for its Meccano-like frame. The original design was inspired by aeronautical engineering, and the bike was once synonymous with London of the Swinging 60's. When we stumbled across a yellow one hanging up in a fellow-cyclists’ flat, we wanted to know who it belonged to. That's how we met Saki, a die-hard cyclist from Tokyo, now braving London on a yellow 'Land Rover' Moulton and a white jumpsuit.

Freewheelers: Muna's Pink Dream
It was love at first site when Muna encountered a pink bicycle frame on Brick Lane markets. Former bike courier, bike polo player, and all around bike addict, Muna talks to us about riding in London and her love of stickers.

Freewheelers: Ben's Fluoro Bike
London-based artist and designer Benedict Radcliffe shows us his beautiful flourescent bikes - there's no chance of car drivers not seeing you when you're atop one of these beauties. Find out more at www.benedictradcliffe.co.uk.

Freewheelers: Jess's Self-Build
“I just try to ride without stopping". And it’s not easy to stop when you’re riding a, er, brakeless mountain bike. Adrenalin-junkie or just plain foolhardy? Jess has an amped-up attitude to go with the mire of London traffic. But this fashion student from Louisana also has a very laidback sense of personal style. Riding without brakes in London is one thing, but riding in shorts? That’s certifiable.

Freewheelers: Neil's Penny Farthing
An original new series about freedom, bikes and travelling in style. Sharp-suited dandy Neil is a drinks writer for The Chap, a magazine aimed at the modern gentlemen. Neil takes us on a tour of his vintage penny farthing, the vehicle of choice for the 19th-century playboy. It's still turning heads (and setting hearts aflutter) in modern-day London.

Freewheelers: Chicago Greg's Self-Build
Photography student ‘Chicago Greg’ brings cool rides to life at Soho’s hippest cycling store, Tokyo Fixed Gear, in London. He combines a laid-back style with fast-moving eye candy – check out his self-build.

Freewheelers: Caz's Pashley
Caz, London cycling blogger and fashionista, tells us about her love affair with a pale blue Pashley Poppy and her crusade against helmet-hair.

Freewheelers: Matthew's BMX
Shoreditch fashion designer Mathew likes to mix work with play. And that’s why he built a bike ramp in the middle of his studio! It might be small and sweet, but it’s the perfect size for the neglected BMX he rescued from a friend’s garden. See how he bought it back to life. www.sewwat.com

Freewheelers: Charlie's Ugandan Courier Bike
An original new series about freedom, bikes and travelling in style. Charlie, a London artist and former bike courier, organised a race to the ‘centre of the earth’ in Uganda using Indian-made ‘Hero’ bikes, the most popular bike for local couriers. He bought his Hero home to London in a suitcase; Here he is unpacking it for Babelgum.

ABOUT

While people-watching can be done at leisure from a cafe table, bike-watching poses a much more serious challenge – blink and you miss it! Freewheelers pulls over some frisky-looking rides and let’s them give us a good talking to.

News and Friends

We’re addicted to the coffee at our favourite biking cafe, Look Mum No Hands. Just goes to show, you don’t have to be Australian to make a decent coffee in London (though it helps).

We’re loving the latest edition of The Ride, an object of beauty and inspiration in equal measures.
