 What is Babelgum™ mobile?

Babelgum™Mobile is a free application to watch Babelgum’s extensive video selection on the go.

Will Babelgum™ mobile work on my 2G/3G/3GS iPhone and iPod touch?

Yes, Babelgum will work on 2G/3G iPhone and iPod handsets with iPhone OS 2.0. A new version for iPhone OS 3.0 has also been released. Babelgum Mobile is also available on Google Android G1 and G2.

Will Babelgum™ Mobile work over my Wi-Fi connection?

Yes, as long as you are connected to the Wi-Fi network. This applies to the Apple iPhone, iPod touch and the Nokia N95, but not to the Nokia 6210.

Is Babelgum™ Mobile free?

The content on Babelgum™ Mobile is 100% free* to view as often as you like, when used through the Vodafone Network with a Vodafone Data Bundle. Data transfer will not be charged from within UK and Italy.

How can I watch videos on the Babelgum application?

Click on the Babelgum icon to launch the player and click on one of the thumbnails presented in the Highlights view (default starting view).

How can I watch Babelgum ™ Mobile on my mobile device?

If you have an  iPhone / iPod touch you can download the app for free from the App Store via iTunes
If you have a Symbian you can access it through Vodafone Live!
If you have Goggle Android you can download the app through the Android Market

How do I install the Babelgum™ Mobile application on the iPhone?

There are 2 different ways to install the Babelgum client on your iPhone.

1: Via your PC

(a)    Plug your phone into your PC and open iTunes

(b)   In your iTunes menu, click on STORE/iTunes store and sign in

(c)    Once signed in, run a search for Babelgum

(d)   When found, click the get App button and it will be installed.

 2: Via your handset

(a)    Click on the App Store

(b)   Click on the search button on the bottom

(c)    Type Babelgum in the Search Bar

(d)   Tap the FREE button and this will change to the INSTALL button, click it again

(e)    Sign in using your iTunes login details. 

You will then be redirected back to your iPhone’s home screen and the installation will complete.

How do I uninstall the Babelgum™ Mobile application on the iPhone?

a)      Hold down on the icon until it starts to wiggle

b)      You should then see the black (X) appear on the top left-hand corner of the icon

c)      Press the black (X) once and the icon will disappear. This will remove the Babelgum application.

How do I install the Babelgum™ Mobile application on the Nokia phones?

Connect to Vodafone Live! and download the application from there.

How do I uninstall the Babelgum™ Mobile application on the Nokia phones?

Click on the Babelgum™ Mobile icon, select Options and then Remove.

  

The Babelgum™ Mobile Player

 How do I launch the Babelgum™ Mobile Player?

-To launch the player on the Apple iPhone click on the application icon.

-To launch the player on the Nokia N95 click on the Multimedia key, select Applications, then select the Babelgum player icon and click on the menu key. On the Nokia 6210, select Applications, then Babelgum (or the folder you installed the player to with the Applications area) and finally select the Babelgum player icon and click on the menu key.

Navigating on the Babelgum™ Mobile Player

There are several ways in which you can access videos on the Babelgum™ Mobile Player:

  • Highlights

  • Most Viewed

  • Favorites

  • Channels, which are accessed through the Channels option

  • Search: just enter keywords in the Search Bar.

Highlights

When you launch the Babelgum™ Mobile Player you'll first land on the Highlights page. Here is a selection of videos that are regularly updated.

On the iPhone videos are presented in cards in a stack view. Double-tapping on the background switches to grid view (auto-arrange).

When the user shakes the phone s/he will be presented with a refresh of the Highlights.

The user can also view the clip cards in a list format by tapping on the list icon in the top left of the screen. Videos are presented in a linear fashion with the rating, title, duration and a short description of the video. Tap on the Babelgum logo in the top left to return to the grid/stack view.

The user can order the videos on the Highlights page by double-tapping on the background. Shaking the phone will then refresh the clips and return to the stack view.

On the Nokia phones the Highlights are only presented in a menu fashion that the user may scroll.

Most Viewed

These are the videos that users on the Babelgum platform have viewed the most. The selection here is updated daily based on the most viewed content.

Favorites

Favorites is your personal area of Babelgum where you can store your favorite videos. You must log in to be able to view your favorites.

On the iPhone

The user can move through their favorites by scrolling using the touch screen. To remove a video, tap on the Edit button in the top right of the screen. Then scroll to the video that you wish to delete and tap on the red icon to the left of the clip card. A Delete button will appear on the right of the screen. Tap Delete to remove the video. Tap anywhere else on the screen to remove the Delete button.

Also on the iPhone when viewing the clipcard details at the bottom left of the screen there is a button containing a heart. Click on this to add the current video to your Favorites.

On the Nokia phones

Scroll to this option in the bar at the top of the screen. You may play any video by clicking on one of your selected videos.

You may remove videos from your Favorites by clicking on the “Remove from Favorites” option. 

Channels – Presented under the Channels option

We currently have a wide range of Channels on Babelgum mobile, with more being added all the time. You’ll find a selection of our favorite videos in each of the Channels which are accessed via the Channels option.

Videos in each Channel are updated on a regular basis. Come back often to see more of our selected videos for your review. Channels vary from country to country and include:

·         Film

·         Music

·         Comedy

·         Our Earth

·         Metropolis

On the Nokia phones

Click on one of the icons to enter and view the most popular videos we have selected for your enjoyment.

On the iPhone

The videos within each category are presented in two areas: Highlights and Most Viewed. Click on the clip card to open a clip. 

How do I Play a Video?

On the iPhone to start watching a video, just tap a clip card and then tap on the Play button (large button at the bottom of the screen with an arrow inside a circle).

On the Nokia phones click on the thumbnail using the menu key (large key at the centre of the keypad). Alternatively, click on the Options button in the bottom left and then on the Play Video option presented.

Rating Videos

On the iPhone

Open the mediacard for a video by tapping on one of the cards in for example the Highlights view. Below the thumbnail for the video, tap the Rate area on the screen. In the popup, scroll from left to right to select the rating that you wish, from 1 star (Poor) through to 5 stars (Excellent!). Tap OK to rate the video or Cancel to exit without rating the video.

On the Nokia Phones

When you have completed viewing the video or exited from viewing the video you will be returned to the clip details view. Click on the Rate option and you will be presented with the following options:-

·         Poor

·         Not interesting

·         Interesting

·         Worth watching

·         Excellent!

Scroll to the rating you wish to apply to the video and then click on the <RETURN> button.

A message “Rating OK” will appear briefly on the screen and your rating will have been recorded for this video. 

Similar Videos (iPhone only)

Open a clip card and click on 'Show Similar Videos'. You'll  be presented with a list of videos that are similar to the videos selected. The similarity of the videos is calculated through an algorithm taking into account: categories, name and description of the clip.

Share (iPhone only)

Users on the iPhone can share links to their favorite videos on the Babelgum player through the social networks Facebook and Myspace. Open the clip card for a video and tap the icon at the bottom of the screen (second from right – which looks like a map of the world). The user will be presented with two options, Facebook or Myspace. Tap on the desired option, log into the social network site and follow the instructions on the web site. The link including a thumbnail of the video with a title and description will be embedded on the user’s social network site. When this embedded link is clicked on, the user will be brought to the Babelgum player and the video will be launched. If the user does not have Babelgum installed they will be prompted to do so.

The user can also send a link to their friends by email. Tap on the envelope icon in the bottom right of the screen and forward the link to the video via email.

Why do you have advertisements on Babelgum?

To let you enjoy hundreds of hours of Babelgum content for free, we have a small amount of sensitively placed advertising on the platform.

Search

You'll find the Search option (Nokia phones), Looking Glass icon (iPhone) in the bar at the top right of the Babelgum player. Key in the text for the video you wish to view and hit the Search button (iPhone) and the OK button (Nokia phones).

A list of videos matching the text entered will be returned as a list.

To carry out another search on the iPhone, tap the back button at the top of the screen and repeat the steps above.

On the Nokia phones, to carry out another search click on the Options button and then New Search.
