Publishing FAQs

How do I get my content on Babelgum as a Content Owner?

If you have one or a few programs that you would like to license on Babelgum and your material is already available in digital file format, then you should register to join our online video publishing service. If you carry a larger catalogue and need to discuss special licensing options or material delivery methods, contact us at content@babelgum.com.

Can anyone provide content to the video publishing site?

No. The video publishing site is a B2B service dedicated to professional content owners. You must be a company in the business of producing or distributing content. Confirming this status and that you have the rights to the content is essential to ensure that Babelgum remains a safe and legal entertainment platform.

What is the technical specification for uploading content?

In order to provide the highest quality experience to Babelgum audiences all digital video files must meet certain standards for content and resolution.

Why does Babelgum request videos at bitrates higher than 5 Mbps?

Videos on the Babelgum platform are presented by default in full screen mode and at near television quality. In order to produce streaming video quality that is acceptable at full screen resolution we need original source video files that are of a very high bitrate.

How do I get paid?

Our standard model is to give a content owner 50% of the ad revenues that we collect for ads placed immediately before or during playback of their licensed content.

How is this verified?

We maintain all traffic logs, tracking unique visits and views.
When we make a payment you will also be notified how many views your content has received.
We will at all times maintain true and complete records and accounts and employ an independent accounting firm to periodically review them and certify the accuracy of our statements.

What about a contract?

The contract will be between you as the content provider and Babelgum and will be considered signed when you create an account on the video publishing service. The primary point of our contract is to ensure you are the legal owner of the content and that your licensing rights to the content are protected.

I only have rights for certain territories, does this matter?

No it doesn’t. Babelgum can make content available over the Internet in certain countries and not in others through its use of geoblocking technology.

Can the content be in any language?

Right now we are only accepting content in English or in other languages with English subtitles. This limitation will be removed in the near future as we localize the service in different languages.

Is content censored?

Babelgum is not in the censorship business, we believe in free speech and providing for lots of different points of view including the provocative and the controversial. Our only requirement is that the content be suitable for a general audience. We therefore forbid, and will remove when notified of violations, adult material that would typically be x-rated, and content that is unlawful, obscene, defamatory, hateful or racially or ethnically offensive.

What if it has an existing classification - higher than PG-13 or R?

Babelgum is a platform to reach a global audience and although rules vary between different countries, you as a content provider must understand, at the risk of repeating ourselves we don’t want adult content. For each piece of content we will ask you to provide a suggested rating, based on the MPAA system, which typically should be either G (general audience), PG-13 (Parental guidance suggested) and in some cases R (under 17 with an adult).

How do I know my content is secure?

Security is important: We use advanced content encryption methods, and as there is no download facility and Babelgum is free-to-view, there is little incentive for piracy.

I only want to screen content for a limited time. Is this possible?

Yes of course, although for the sake of the viewer’s experience we require that any uploaded content will be available for a minimum of three months.
