James Kalm Frames NY: Drippy and Shredders

Drippy at FAMOUS ACCOUNTANTS and Shredders by Andrzej Zieliński at DCKT. James Kalm knows that to stay on top of today’s contemporary art scene you have to be willing to venture to the edges and explore what is developing on the margins. Famous Accountants is a new gallery project founded by Kevin Regan and Ellen Lecher at the Eastern edge of the Greater Williamsburg neighborhood. Their second show “Drippy” with Ben Godward riffs on the iconic signifier of the “drip” and manipulate its serious and whimsical potential. Meanwhile, back on the Bowery we stop in to visit the recent offerings from Andrzej Zieliński at DCKT Gallery. These works feature an extravagant use of pigment that pushes the medium to the state of relief, while representing the now ubiquitous paper shredder in vibrant colors. The artist’s physical gouging and chopping of the painting ground mimics the shredder’s own actions.

For more videos from this series, visit babelgum.com/jameskalm.
