Broken Rose Portal
“Broken Rose Portal,” raw, wordless and other-worldly, is a deeply visceral abstract dance film about re-routed reality. Aimed to express the point when “what we think we know” is broken, our personal security undermined or we wake up to an altered reality whatever it may be, whether trite or tragic. Quite literally, “Broken Rose Portal,” manifests in vacuous white space, the visual field split by large moving invisible mirrors. Vast space, disorienting images and intense musical score take the viewer away from the mental and into the belly of this very elusive yet real place in the human spirit.

Radar Twenty-Four: From the Desk of Sarah Seely
From the Desk of Sarah Seely is a company of professional dancers, actors and artists all of whom work 9-5 desk jobs assisting executives. Rehearsals and performance opportunities are scheduled and created around this. The company's work is a blend of theater and dance, a celebration of present-day concerns and campy vintage aesthetics, topped off with the frustration of being artists in day jobs. We join the troupe as they rehearse the performance 'How to Disappear Completely' and take their post-apocalyptic vignettes to the street and the office. Sarah argues that a 9-5 desk job is like being a subsidized artist. Rather than identifying as an Executive Assistant or Personal Aide, the annual income, 401k and health insurance can actually make it easier to focus on what you do for artistic reasons.

New in New York Ep 9: Bollywood
Just when I thought I'd seen every dance craze that could possibly hit New York City, another one has come along: Bollywood. Based on India's version of Hollywood, Bollywood is a term for musical films that are a big part of Indian culture. With lots of color and energetic dance, Bollywood films are nothing short of specatular. So I thought I'd check out the craze for myself by taking a Bollywood dance class at Dhoonya Dance Studios in Manhattan.
