About

Babelgum

A free, revolutionary Internet and Mobile TV platform supported by advertising, Babelgum combines the full-screen video quality of traditional television with the interactive capabilities of the Internet and offers professionally produced programming on-demand to a global audience. The Babelgum site has been revamped and now comes with a new Flash-based, download-free, global web video service.

Babelgum's goal is to act as an international 'glue', bringing a huge range of professional and semi-professional content to a global audience – like a modern-day Tower of Babel. The bubble logo is a fun visual pun on the company name, but also reflects Babelgum's commitment to a green, global future.

The company has recently launched an original mobile application in the US, UK, Italy, France, Germany and Spain that brings web-tailored content to smart phones (iPhone, Nokia  N96, N95 and 6210, with more to come) via 3G and Wi-Fi. A new version for iPhone OS 3.0 together with Google Android G1 and G2 have also been released.

Babelgum has implemented a new programming guide which organizes videos into thematic Channels with dedicated Publishers who select the best content and provide updates in their areas of expertise.

But that's not the whole story. Babelgum is also on a talent-scouting mission with online contests aimed at nurturing emerging filmmakers, musicians and artists: the Babelgum Online Film Festival, chaired by award-winning director and producer Spike Lee, the Babelgum Music Video Awards, judged by acclaimed film director and music video maven Michel Gondry, The Metropolis Art Prize chaired by Isabella Rossellini..

In addition, Babelgum has embarked on an exciting project: producing new, exclusive and original content such as The End of The Line, a six-part-series on the impact of overfishing on our planet, Downstream, focusing on the controversy over the development of Alberta's oil sands and Extinction Sucks, a wildlife series on the subject of conservation and protection, with the active involvement of WWF.

Founded in 2005, Babelgum is an independent and privately held company with offices in the U.K., Ireland, France, Italy and the US. Babelgum is wholly owned and financially backed by Silvio Scaglia and led by Valerio Zingarelli, Babelgum's CEO (Chief Executive Officer).
