/ The End of The Line: The Biggest Predator Our Oceans Have Ever Known

...if you think it's a shark... think again! The End of the Line is a powerful film about one of the world's most disturbing problems - over-fishing. Advances in fishing technology mean whole species of wild fish are under threat and the most important stocks we eat are predicted to be in a state of collapse by 2050. The film points the finger at those most to blame, including celebrity chefs, and shows what we can do about it. This is not just a film, it is also a campaign - for sustainable consumption of fish, for marine protected areas to allow the sea to recover, and for a new ethic of responsible fishing. What does the future hold for fish? Rupert Murray, director of the movie, travels to Australia and dives to the SS Yongala shipwreck, an area which has been protected for over 30 yrs and which now thrives with marine life. He then visits Kiribati, the worlds' largest marine protected area since 2006. According to Charles Clover, author of the End of the Line, the European Union is responsible not only for European waters but also for sending subsidized vessels to plunder the oceans of the world. As a scientist points out, half of the oxygen we breathe is produced from the ocean, by a specific composition of plankton which regulates the balance of oxygen and carbon dioxide. Everything is connected and needs to stay in balance otherwise we may risk reaching... the end of the line. - For all other episodes, extra videos, interesting links, campaigns, more info: www.babelgum.com/endoftheline
